Movies Under the Stars

AT Wyong on the Central Coast of NSW, the Ability Links NSW team has worked closely with partners in the community, including with Kathy Devries, of Uniting Care, at their new premises in Lake Munmorah.

The synergy between the two teams has resulted in a number of successful collaborations. Most recently, their work together has culminated in an event called “Movies Under the Stars”.

Linker Claire Albin and Kathy have worked together to ensure the event is inclusive of people living with disability, their families, and carers, and to leverage the opportunities available in the lead up to, at the event to spread the word about the benefits of individuals, families, groups and organisations engaging with Ability Links NSW.

Plans were laid for a linker to attend the event to talk to members of the community about the Ability Links NSW program and to provide information about the role of linkers, how to get in touch, how referrals are handled and some of the great outcomes being achieved.

In order to promote the event, Claire and Kathy held a stall at the Lake Munmorah shopping centre where they spoke to about 50 people about “Movies Under the Stars’’, as well as about the Ability Links NSW  program and other local services.

Ability Links NSW has arranged for a sensory tent to be made available for use during the “Movies Under the Stars’’ event which will provide a quiet space for children who might benefit from having access to one, along with access to sensory-associated therapeutic supports.

Both Claire and Wyong Linker, Cassie Fenech, plan to attend the event along with Kathy to help with the running of the night, including manning of the sensory tent an Ability Links stall, and taking the opportunity to spend time with the local community.

The event is scheduled to be held on October 17th. Stay tuned for the follow-up!
